Temple is a mixed caster/weapon platform frame with a few weakish AOE damaging abilities (Pyrotechnics, Overdrive), a strong exalted flamethrower on 4 (Lizzie/Exalted Solo) and a few decent weapon buffs with Overdrive providing flat critical chance (scaling with strength) and Ripper's Wail providing up to 750% raw heat elemental damage boost. You will be casting 1 and 2 quite frequently trying to hit 'backbeat' which is the sweetspot on the pendulum.
Hitting a backbeat on either 1 or 2 will improve energy cost of casting that ability, fuel ammo for the exalted [Lizzie], [Extend] the duration of Ripper's Wail, increase the heat bonus of Ripper's Wail, increase the Pillars from 1 and double the crit chance boost of 2, meaning it is absolutely crucial for you to hit backbeats pretty consistently.
BUILD VARIANTS
PLAYSTYLE
- Tap 1 and 2 on crowds of enemies in front of you making sure to hit backbeats as much as possible to charge fuel for [Lizzie].
- Tap 3 on a backbeat to become invulnerable for a short period and gain raw heat damage buff
- Cast 4 making sure to time a backbeat so you consume no energy to summon the Exalted. The exalted runs on fuel rather than energy which is fueled by hitting backbeats on 1 and 2. Shoot enemies.
SURVIVABILITY
Option 1 : Shield Gating
This is a HIGH activity playstyle requiring frequent casting and high mobility, but is the best option if you want to take Temple into higher levels over 300 to 400 e.g. (EDA, ETA, endurance cascade/disruption). [Catalyzing Shields] is OPTIONAL but forces any shield gained to give 1.33s gate (currently) meaning tapping 1 or 2 will reset shield gate fully. This means a SINGLE augur mod such as [Augur Secrets] OR any augur mod on a pistol or [Burst Laser Prime] on a sentinel is enough to help full gate. Tapping 3 on a backbeat will also give you approximately 7s of invulnerability however this is easy to fumble and also locks you into a 3s animation. This is up to personal preference but I would rather freely tap 1 or 2 for general gating and save backbeat 3 for desperate situations. Rolling Guard is also OPTIONAL for additional i-frames and status cleanse while spamming 1/2 and will easily be able to survive to levelcap. Heat procs from 1 also add additional layer of crowd control, but you could swap this for better layers of survivability e.g. Omamori, Silence, Pillage etc. If you prefer to tap 3 everytime to shield gate then you could swap [Catalyzing Shields] for [Rolling Guard].
Option 2: Health Tanking
If shield gating just isn't your cup of tea or if you are only playing non SP or low level SP missions and don't feel like gating, feel free to swap Catalzying Shields and [Rolling Guard] for [Adaptation] and [Health Conversion], and use a fully ranked [Archon Vitality].
STAT BREAKDOWN
DURATION
Duration is not a particularly important stat because Ripper's Wail has a base duration of 30s and is extended by each backbeat cast of 1 or 2 and can be refreshed indefinitely. Additionally if you use Ripper's Wail for invulnerability at all, you may be frequently recasting Ripper's Wail manually anyway. Duration has no effect on Exalted Solo and Overdrive already has a long base duration of 20s, meaning after casting you just need to kill affected enemies before approximately 15s. [Archon Continuity] is used here specifically for combination with Blast Toxin modded on [Lizzie] to get corrosive status.
EFFICIENCY AND ENERGY
Efficiency is not required on [Temple] as Exalted Solo does not continuously drain energy and instead spends fuel which requires backbeat casting of 1 and 2 to charge. Casting 4 on a backbeat also spends 0 energy. Backbeat casting 1 and 2 also grants a 50% efficiency bonus meaning it basically costs the base energy cost of 25 each cast. Ripper's Wail is infrequently cast and is also cheap. [Seismic Bond] on a companion can easily activate while Exalted Solo is active giving a further free 30% efficiency. [Equilibrium] is sufficient to sustain any energy requirements and [Primed Flow] is optional.
RANGE
[Temple]'s 1 and 2 require range but both have a decent base range of 25m and 20m respectively. You will want to increase this dependent on the tileset but approximately 145 to 175 range is sufficient in most cases. Note that [Lizzie] has a maximum range of 26m with [Sinister Reach] and Overdrive at 145 range reaches exactly 29m which will cover the entire range of [Lizzie]. NOTE: [Archon Stretch] is OPTIONAL of regular [Stretch] if you are running a companion such as [Diriga] or Hound that can proc it for you for some passive energy [Regen].
STRENGTH
Strength is the most important stat as it scales the damage of 1, 2 and 4 and the critical chance bonus from 2. At 350% strength a backbeat cast of Overdrive can give a flat 175% crit chance bonus. Strength has no lasting effect on Ripper's Wail since it is capped at 750% maximum heat bonus regardless, with strength just speeding up the ramp up to get there.
Strength acts like a +damage mod for [Lizzie], with the formula: 1.25 x STRENGTH%. This means at base 100% strength, strength is equivalent to a +25% damage mod. At around 350% strength, this is equivalent to a 337% damage mod (i.e. almost matching Primary Merciless). Other sources of +damage such as Arcane Rage, Serration, Galvanized Aptitude and Primary Merciless are all 'additive' to this strength component.
ARCANES
- Arcane Hot Shot - gives 300% critical chance to all weapons at r5
- Arcane Impetus - gives 48% strength and 24% efficiency almost instantly at the start of the mission (Lizzie primary can do Heat, Blast, Tox. Lizzie Alt-fire can do impact, viral, magnetic, cold and corrosive for a total for 8 procs)
- Molt Augmented - gives up to 60% strength after 250 kills
- Arcane Acceleration - boosts Lizzie fire rate, highest boost in DPS for LIzzie compared to Augmented or Rage
- Arcane Rage - boosts Lizzie base damage on headshot but this is additive to strength and other mods so no that necessary
- Arcane Aegis - nice backup survivability
AURA
- [Brief Respite]: allows for shield gating without requiring augur mods. If you offload to augur mods on pistol or burst laser sentinel weapon, just swap this for Growing Power
- Growing Power: gives another 25% strength
- Corrosive Projection: normally good for armored enemies if not applying heat and corrosive status
EXILUS
Completely flexible
- Power Drift for more strength
- Cunning Drift for more energy
- Primed Sure Footed to avoid knockdown if you own it
- Firewalker for more parkour velocity in matching style
FLEXIBLE SLOTS
[Archon Vitality]: This works on [Lizzie] and gives an addition heat proc whenever heat status occurs, effectively doubling the heat status DPS. If you are shield gating you will not need this at maximum rank so to save capacity we run this unranked. If you are NOT using Lizzie at all, swap this out for Rolling Guard or more strength.
Rolling Guard: If you preferred to use Ripper's Wail as your main source of shield regen and i-frames you can consider swapping Catalyzing Shield for [Rolling Guard]
ARCHON SLOTS
ONE Amber Cast Speed Shard: This reduces the animation time of Ripper's Wail from 3s to approximately 2s making this slightly more bearable while also speeding up casting of 2 which you will use on basically every new enemy. Note : this also reduces the actual invulnerability from a non-back beat cast of 3, but does not reduce the invuln window of a backbeat cast.
To maximise [Lizzie] DPS: up to THREE Crimson Primary Status Chance shards: boosts status chance on [Lizzie] and other Primary Weapons and ONE Tauforged +Corrosive stack to improve damage against armored enemy
For General Use: The other shards are flexible and up to preference e.g. energy max shards allow you to remove [Primed Flow], parkour shards to improve mobility,
HELMINTH
You can either subsume over 1 for a Lizzie focused build, or subsume over 4 for a Pyrotechnics Ability focused build or non-[Lizzie] Weapons Platform.
EXALTED DPS
For 4 DPS build, given how much you need to focus on pressing 2 to prime enemies for crit chance AND hit backbeats, I would prefer a PASSIVE ability over 1 that doesn't need casting simultaneously with 2. Temple's main weakness is a lack of crowd control and survivability:
- Nourish: gives passive viral status without needing to use any alt-fire and maximises energy economy, although neither of these are REALLY required, can be a very comfortable choice
- Silence : creates an aura around you that briefly stuns enemies for 2s while also preventing special eximus/acolyte/thrax abilities which can be a very nice passive source of crowd control and survivability:
- Omamori: independent of duration and creates charms that have a 50% of blocking damage. This could be even better if you ran a full passive gating setup e.g. [Fast Deflection]+vigilante vigor+catalyzing shield + arcane aegis. You could do this by swapping out Rolling Guard and Transient Fortitude.
- Resonator: gives passive area crowd control and has fits the musical theme, nice for non-mobile missions
If you are happy with more active abilities you can try grouping e.g. Pull, Airburst, Ensnare
MECHA ROAR NUKE
Roar is a special case because unfortunately you can only subsume Roar over Ripper's Wail, which is reasonable in a special Mecha setup with a specific focus on boosting heat status from Pyrotechnics, which Ripper's Wail doesn't do anyway.
