Coda Hema Viral/Blast Heat Progenitor | Crit/Status + MultiCO

INTRODUCTION

I am of the opinion that the [Coda Hema] is an incredibly underrated gun and the reason people don't talk about it is because they're simply unaware of the damage it can pump out.

If you've tested it for yourself and found yourself disappointed, it could be for one of these reasons:

  • You did not realise it had MultiCO
  • You hate burst fire weapons (negligible with fire rate but could still be a dealbreaker)
  • You tested it on a frame with Nourish

This isn't a weapon you can just slap onto any frame and expect it to perform well. That would be boring, and if you're just looking for a weapon that can do that, use Torid or whatever. This guide isn't for you, and I'm assuming you're here because you like the Hema/think it looks cool and want it to perform, or want to at least TRY to make it perform, or got it for EDA/ETA/Duviri. Whatever the case is, I'm here to help you make it work.

NOTE: If you don't know what MultiCO is, basically, certain weapons gain their bonuses from Galvanized mods such as [Galvanized Shot] or in this case, [Galvanized Aptitude], differently from other weapons. Instead of it being additive and the same multiplier slot to mods like [Serration], it's instead a separate multiplier calculated at the end, causing a massive damage spike. [Coda Hema] is one of these weapons.

DESCRIPTION

The first step is to understand that it's a rifle, and that means as far as possible, you want to equip [Primed Cryo Rounds] on it. Fortunately, primaries have access to Primary Crux, and the [Coda Hema] itself has high status chance along with great fire rate, meaning it lends itself well to a Blast build.

The next is to recognise that the weapon has inbuilt Viral, so frames that run Nourish wouldn't be benefitting from the weapon. If you're using Nourish, use another weapon instead.

The last is to notice that, with this build, the lack of Corrosive means for the best damage output possible, you want an armor stripper in some form. This should be on your Warframe, unless you're fine with using a primer (I'm not). Thereby, I recommend your Warframe and/or your companion to be your form of armor strip. The Warframes that I personally enjoy using this gun with are [Ember] (strip on 3 + heat), [Trinity] (strip on 3) and [Saryn] (Corrosive imbue). They all also run Roar to make the statuses more effective, but it's ultimately not necessary.

I run [Diriga] to prime 7 elements allowing for funny numbers with MultiCO. The priming from [Diriga] isn't strictly necessary and you can run a different companion if you'd prefer.

BUILD SPECIFICS

Progenitor Element: I run Heat, allowing for a single [Primed Cryo Rounds] to enable Blast. The only other viable alternative is Magnetic, at which point you simply swap out [Magnetic Capacity] in the build for [Thermite Rounds]. I prefer the magazine size from [Magnetic Capacity], though, and running Heat allows that Magnetic Capacity slot to be a flex slot, whereas a Magnetic progenitor would mandate Thermite Rounds.

  • [Serration]: As a MultiCO weapon, some form of base damage bonus is required. Take this out only if you know what you're doing, such as if you're playing a Glory-less gun platform Jade. Also feel free to run Amalgam Serration or Spectral Serration if your frame benefits from it/can enable it.
  • Primed Cryo Rounds: To enable Blast and giving the weapon a good amount of status damage. Big multipliers are good.
  • Galvanized Chamber: Multishot is good.
  • Galvanized Aptitude: The core of the MultiCO.
  • [Vile Acceleration]: Mandatory fire rate, but replaceable with Primed Shred if you so prefer. I personally hate burst fire and Vile Acceleration makes the gun feel like an auto gun.
  • Vital Sense: Crit is good.
  • Critical Delay: Crit is good.
  • [Magnetic Might]: This is the flex slot. Magnetic is a strong status effect especially with the gun's high status chance and the magazine size helps make the gun feel more comfy. Other alternatives you can consider are a Bane mod, Hammer Shot, Galvanized Scope, or a Riven.
  • Vigilante Supplies: It doesn't super matter what you put here. It's basically either this or Terminal Velocity/[Stabilizer], and since I slap two Vigilante mods on my [Diriga], I go with this. If you prefer the bullet speed or lower recoil, by all means.

Arcane: Primary Crux, and there really isn't a substitute. You COULD run Primary Merciless and swap [Serration] for something like [Hammer Shot], but it won't be as good as Primary Crux unless you REALLY [Hate] going for headshots.

ALTERNATIVES:

If you can't strip armor in any way but find yourself forced to use the Hema, like say, in Duviri, then swap Primed Cryo Rounds out for Thermite Rounds for your usual Viral/Heat build. You will definitely notice a drop in DPS, however.

CLOSING

If you're gonna say "that's a lot of effort to make a gun work", maybe it is. At the end of the day, [Coda Hema] is a solid A tier gun, and isn't going to compete directly in casual content with the broken weapons that you're already familiar with. The same can be said for a lot of guns, but what makes Warframe fun is to figure out the synergies that makes a gun work the best it can. And for me, the best way to make this hilarious looking unlimited ammo infested gun work is this build. You could most certainly and/or definitely find a different build that would work better in the context of how you play the game - but this build works swimmingly for me.

If you hate burst weapons and/or just want a different gun that allows for a Viral/Blast build, [Ax-52] is a good one. Or if you want a secondary, then try [Kompressa Prime].

"What if you're playing a frame that already has Nourish?" That's an excellent question, friend. Then I use a different gun - my other favourite gun, the Kuva Karak! Or, if I find that the weapon needs to have Corrosive, then I use the Tenet Flux Rifle for a Blast/Corrosive build (that one does have a Riven involved, though).

If this build gets any traction, I'll make a writeup on those weapons.
